Ranchi, April 12: Bowing to student pressure, Ranchi University today extended the date for the post-graduate final year examinations to May 20.

The detailed calendar will be announced shortly.

The decision comes days after a section of final-year students went on the rampage on the university campus to protest against the ?unreasonable? announcement that the exam would be held in the first week of May.

The students had wanted the exams to be postponed by a few days as, they claimed, their courses had not been completed and they would not get enough time to prepare.

The university authorities took the decision to extend the exam date at the meeting of post-graduate heads and deans of arts, science and commerce faculties.

Shaken by the varsity violence, the authorities had asked the heads of departments to furnish a detailed report on the status of classes in different subjects. The officials had also sought their opinion on when the final-year PG examinations would start.
