Ranchi, Aug. 30: Chief minister Raghubar Das today asked deputy commissioners of all districts to ensure that photographs of teachers of state-run schools were prominently displayed on the premises so that students and local residents were able to identify how many among them regularly attended classes.
Das issued this order at his Seedhi Baat programme, where he directly listens to the problems of commoners.
The latest directive was prompted by one Gopikrishna Verma from Giridih, who complained that children studying at an upgraded middle school in Horodih panchayat were not getting their midday meal, bicycles, uniforms, stationary kit and other sops provided by the government. The school remained opened from 10am to 1pm instead from 8am to 2pm and the teachers just registered their attendance without taking classes.
"The approximate monthly salary of these teachers is Rs 40,000 and still they don't even care to come to school regularly. This cannot be allowed. Children and their parents don't even know who the teachers are. Display their photographs prominently. This ought to be completed within one month," the chief minister said
The SP initially argued that the case came under the jurisdiction of Delhi police, but the chief minister was not convinced. Instead, Das asked the officer what stopped him from arresting the accused, who were present in his domain. <>
Das promised the victim a source of living while directing DC Shravan Kumar Sai to spread the word that girls from poor families need not go outside. His government would provide them jobs.
Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Indrajeet Mahatha was told to go to the spot to probe the alleged murder of a mechanical engineering student, Uttam Kumar, during ragging at NIT, Adityapur, on March 21, 2012.
One Chinta Devi of Bokaro was given Rs 1 lakh from the chief minister's relief fund. Her husband Bipta Ram was a clerk at the Ranchi branch of Bihar Hill Area Lift Irrigation Corporation and died on January 1, 1997, while still working.
A total of 15 complaints were heard at Tuesday's Seedhi Baat. This month, there was a 2 per cent drop in number of complaints, apparently because the helpline number, 181, did not function properly.
