The traffic wing of district police is gearing up to streamline vehicular movement in the city on December 31 and New Year.

“The restrictions are being imposed in view of the year-end celebrations across the city. Entry of heavy vehicles will remain restricted for about 48 hours from 11pm on December 30. The ban will not apply to passenger buses,” senior superintendent of police Anoop Birthary said.

The SSP said police would give special attention to drunk-driving.

“Police teams accompanied by executive magistrates will carry out random checks against the drunk-driving in the city. Drives will be conducted at entrances to picnic spots and marketplaces across the city. Offenders will be prosecuted and sent to jail,” Birtharay said.

He said over 1,500 cops would be deputed in places such as Jubilee Park, Narwapahar (Jadugora), Bhetiya Park (Kadma), Domuhani, Hudco Lake (Telco) and Theme Park (Ghorabandha near Telco) besides Bistupur Main Road and Sakchi on both December 31 and January 1.
