Jamshedpur: Once a cattle-grazing venue, Tinplate Sports Complex near Golmuri is all set to turn into a posh address.
Run by the Tinplate Company of India Limited (TCIL), the stadium is being renovated at an estimated cost of Rs 18 lakh. It will soon act as a practice venue for Jamshedpur FC (Reserves).
The entire soil profile of the ground, including the grass topping, has been replaced. Markings and levelling of the ground have already been carried out and the grass is watered regularly using sprinklers. Besides, dressing rooms will come up shortly. To prevent entry of cattle, revolving gates have also been recently. Adequate security guards have also been deputed at the venue.
"The stadium is undergoing renovation and is being readied under the supervision of Tata Football Academy (TFA)," a groundsman said.
JFC (Reserves), which took part in I-League second division earlier this year, will hold practice sessions at the stadium. Earlier JFC juniors would practice at Armoury grounds and TFA greens.
JFC CEO Mukul Chaudhari said they needed an appropriate venue for holding training sessions for the junior outfit. "After inspecting Tinplate Sports Complex earlier this year we felt it should be revamped. Renovation is almost complete and the venue should be handed over to us by next month," he added.
According to Chaudhari, the stadium will also be used for hosting annual local football matches organised by Jamshedpur Sporting Sporting Association (JSA).
With JFC (Reserves) ready to take part in I League in the coming years, a good training venue was the need of the hour. "Training is a key element and a good ground with dressing room facilities was required. So we thought of going ahead with stadium renovation," a JFC official said.
The JFC management has also earmarked another venue to host training sessions for its senior team, who made their debut in the cash-rich Indian Super League (ISL) last year. The ground, being readied by replacing residential quarters of Tata Steel in Kadma, will be in place by July.
