Jamshedpur, Aug. 30: The state vice-president of AITUC and three-time former CPI legislator from Ghatshila, Tikaram Majhi, passed away at the Tata Main Hospital on Monday.

Majhi was rushed to the hospital on Saturday after he complained of chest pain and uneasiness. He was shifted to the intensive care unit that night after there was no improvement in his condition. According to sources, he was suffering from heart ailment for the last couple of years.

A senior advocate of the Jamshedpur civil court, Majhi was also the former president of the Jamshedpur Bar Association. He was respected both within the party circle and among the advocates of the Jamshedpur court.

Majhi is survived by his wife and two sons. “We are shocked at the sudden demise of Mahji. We knew that he was unwell but it is difficult to accept that he has passed away,” said the president of the district bar association, Mukti Podo Banerjee.

According to Majhi’s close associates, his last rites would be performed according to the tribal rituals. “Since he was extremely popular among the party leaders, we shall wait for some time for leaders to visit the city from other parts of the state,” an associate said.
