Adventure junkies, get ready for that adrenaline-pumping ride in the sky again.

Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) is all set to conduct the second phase of parasailing at Sonari aerodrome from January 11 to 15. The aerosport is returning to the city after a 67-day hiatus. The first phase, conducted from October 31 to November 5, had drawn 175 enthusiasts.

Overwhelming response to the first phase encouraged the authorities to bring back the thrilling activity. “Innumerable requests to conduct parasailing started pouring in after the first session,” said TSAF manager Hemant Gupta.

The sky stints at 200ft above the ground will be held between 8am and 5pm. Adventure lovers, including schoolchildren, will have to shell out Rs 400 for a half-an-hour tryst with the sky.

However, unlike the first phase, TSAF has listed some conditions for participants this time. Children below 10 years and people weighing over 80kg have been barred to take part in the sport.

“The conditions have been introduced keeping safety aspects in mind. We have to be very particular about the well-being of people,” Gupta, a techie who joined the TSAF last year, told The Telegraph.

Besides the regulations, TSAF is making elaborate safety arrangements for conducting the sport.

Three crew teams are being deployed. The first, comprising three members, will help launch the flight; the second team — the pilot of the tow jeep and his helper — will control flight altitude and speed; while two end crew members will help parasailors touch down safely.

TSAF secretary P.P. Kapadia advised participants to bring water bottles and wear comfortable trousers, full-sleeve shirts and sports shoes. “Those who complete the programme successfully will get certificates,” he said.

According to Gupta, limited slots are available and entries will be based on first-come-first-serve basis. Those keen to try out the aerial sport can visit TSAF office at JRD Tata Sports Complex or dial 8092565470 and 2145189 for further information. For registration, one can contact Deepankar Banerjee (0657-21-45189/ 8804763510) on office timings (9am to 5pm on weekdays) or mail him at tsaf@tatasteel.com.

Citizens are delighted. “I am looking forward to parasailing because I missed it last time,” said Suman Sinha, a 35-year-old employee of a private firm in Adityapur.

Sonari businessman Praful Chandra Singhdeo said: “My son had asked me for take him for the exercise in November. But, I was concerned about the safety aspects. This time, both me and my son will try it out.”
