Dhanbad, June 26: Dentist, singer, dancer, anchor and actor. For a man who wears so many hats with ease, it’s not difficult for Meiyang Chang to choose his first love — singing. But above all, he prefers to be known as an entertainer.
The Dhanbad lad, who made his foray into tinsel town with Indian Idol 3 in 2007, has taken a break from the auditions of India’s Got Talent — which he is hosting on Colors — to spend a week with his family here.
At a chat with mediapersons today, the 29-year-old was candid that singing would always be his first choice, as acting and dancing required a lot of hard work. Asked in which field he wanted to see himself flourish in the future, Chang said he did not believe in planning and handled projects as they came.
“Planning involves expectations, which may cause frustration. Rather, I would like to be known as a person who provides a lot of entertainment,” he smiled.
For the man who held his fort alongside Shahid Kapur and Anushka Sharma in Badmaash Company, both luck and hard work played equal roles in his success. “Though luck gave me a lot of opportunities to exhibit my talent, I worked harder than others once I got those chances,” said the alumnus of Happy Child School and De Nobili (CMRI) who has a bachelor degree in dental surgery from KIMS, Bangalore.
In fact, he blamed the disappearance of many a talent soon after end of reality shows to lack of hard work. “The glitz and glamour get to the heads of many,” Chang said.
As for his personal life — he is dating Calcutta girl and singer Monali Thakur whom he met during the days of Indian Idol 3 — Chang said he had no immediate plan to marry. “If everything goes as planned, I will tie the knot with Monali after three years,” Chang said.
Regarding promotion of talent in Jharkhand, he said he would certainly endorse a singing institute here to promote local talents.
As of now, Chang is busy with the auditions of India’s Got Talent, which will go on air in end-July, but is keen to test his talent in other, new areas too.
After all, it’s variety that drives him.
