TFA cadet on list for Asian Games

Jamshedpur, June 3: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has named Tata Football Academy (TFA) cadet Ravi Kumar as one of the probables for the16th Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou, China from November 12 to 27.

Ravi, who hails from Varanasi, is a goalkeeper who joined the TFA in 2008. He graduated to the senior level after passing out of the 2006 batch earlier this year.

Besides Ravi, his TFA predecessors — Jagtar Singh, Jharkhand’s Subodh Kumar, Jagrup Singh, Raju Gaekwad, O Milan Singh and Jibon Singh —also find mention in the 24-member list of probables released by AIFF secretary Alberto Colaso yesterday.

The young custodian is considered as an able hand who is expected to climb the top ladders of soccer. “He is very talented and also disciplined. We have high hopes on Ravi,” said P. Vijay Kumar, assistant coach of the premier soccer cradle.

Kumar, a former India footballer, added that Ravi had improved his skills by leaps and bounds since he joined TFA a couple of years ago.

“He’s a hard worker and a very good listener. Ravi’s fitness level is also good. He’s possesses superb reflexes,” Kumar said.
