State outfits for the 18th Senior East Zone (men and women) Tennikoit Championship were announced on Wednesday in the city’s Gopal Maidan.

The tourney, scheduled in Calcutta from May 31 to June 2, is organised by West Bengal Tennikoit Association under Tennikoit Federation of India.

Announcing the men’s and women’s squad on Tuesday, Jharkhand Tennikoit Association (JTA) president S.R.A. Rizvi Chabban said they had high hopes. “We have selected strong and experienced outfits,” he said, adding they had organised a training camp at Gopal Maidan in the run-up to the east zone championship .

Led by Md Sahab, the men’s team comprises Md Nizam, Md Usman, Md Nasim, Shubham K. Singh, Ashfaq Khan and Akshay Kumar Sharma. While Singh and Sharma hail from Chaibasa and Ranchi, the rest are from Jamshedpur.

D. Hemlata at the helm, the women’s team has Singo Tudu, Saraswati Das, Chintu Kumari, Soni Kumari, Puja Kumari and Annu Kumari.

JTA secretary Ali Raza Khan stated Jharkhand teams would compete in single, doubles and mixed doubles formats.
