Jamshedpur, Dec. 29: Fashion keeps changing and the trendiest thing one could sport this festive season is a tattoo.

Artists from Mumbai and Delhi are on a visit here and are being hired by hotels to cater to the high demand.

Be it social occasions, like birthdays and marriages or informal corporate lunches, tattoo artists have made their mark in every circuit.

Niharika Sharma (22) of Sonari, who is about to get married soon, booked a tattoo artist first before making other arrangements.

“We have to wear mehendi before getting married but I thought by a tattoo would bring a trendy look to the traditional art,” said Niharika.

“A tattoo always has a special impact one’s personality, and what is wrong in it if I go for getting my armed tattooed on my marriage day,” added Niharika.

“Unlike real tattoos, we make fabric tattoos which last for two to three days. They are skin-friendly and harmless,” said Arjun Das (21), a prominent tattoo artist from the city.

If you think it’s only the young ladies who are tattoo enthusiasts, then you’re wrong. The craze for tattoos is huge among children as well.

On the occasion of superintendent of police Ashish Batra’s son’s birthday, a Das was invited to paint a scorpion on the arm of the birthday boy.

“By the time, I finished making a tattoo on his son’s arm, the superintendent could not hold back his excitement and got one tattoo for himself,” added Das.

Das is known to have brought the tattoo culture to the steel city and he attributes it to be a part of the changing lifestyle.

The craze for tattoo has gone to such heights, that hotels and clubs have made it a practice to book these artists during special occasions.

Scorpions and dragons being favourites, city fashion freaks are also greeting their tattoos styled in the shapes of mermaids and human skulls.

The fashion trend has been beneficial for tattoo artists.

“For New Year’s eve, I have orders from as many as three hotels and officers’ clubs in the city,” informed Das.

Similarly other tattoo artists from the city too have their dairies choc-a-bloc attending to the fashion craze.

Das concludes: “The tattoo is here to stay.”
