Jamshedpur, Sept. 1: Tata Steel Zoological Park will mentor 27 caretakers from Trivandrum Zoo who will pick up valuable lessons in animal care during a visit later this year.

The visitors from the zoo in Kerala will come to Jamshedpur in two batches for undergoing exhaustive training under Tata zoo functionaries.

“The training schedule for the first batch has been slotted from November 25 to 28, while the second group will be trained from December 2 to 5,” said Tata zoo director Bipul Chakravarty.

According to him, the first two days will focus on animal care, health and management, which will be followed by a visit to Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary.

“The trainees will visit Birsa Munda Biological Garden in Ranchi on the last day of their training,” Chakravarty said.

The Dalma trip for the trainees is aimed at educating them on how animals live in their natural habitat. “The trainees will also have an overall awareness of wild animals,” he added.

“We are glad to host the visitors from Trivandrum Zoo. They will gain more knowledge about animal care and overall management,” the zoo director said, adding they had adequate hands to monitor the four-day training sessions.

Besides Chakravarty, Tata zoo deputy director and vet Manik Palit, curator S.K. Mahto, assistant vet Nidhi Rajput and biologist-cum-education officer Seema Rani will be conducting the training sessions.

Apart from classroom sessions, the training programme will also shed light on practicals. It involves the quantity of food served to animals, sanitation in enclosures, provision of water and medicines as well as other aspects related to treatment of captive animals.

Chakravarty pointed out that the Kerala government would sponsor the entire training.
