Jamshedpur, Dec. 12: The annual winter outdoor leadership programme of Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) kicked-off in right earnest today with a 40-member group from Bokaro Steel Plant slipping into thrill stints at Tumung, a rocky address in East Singhbhum, around 25km from here.

Over 1,000 participants will take part in the programme scheduled at Tumung as well as the scenic Dimna Lake till February 29. Each group will spend two days at Tumung, engaging in rock climbing, Tarzan Swing, obstacles, fun games and caving. Dimna, where participants will get to engage in rafting and improvised raft-making will be one-day affair.

Bokaro apart, other entities comprise Tata Steel Adventure Foundation, Noamundi, Procurement Division of Tata Steel, Tata Technology, TSRDS Khondbond Mines (Odisha), teams from Bokaro Steel Plant and SAIL (Calcutta), Delhi Public School (Calcutta), Tata Football Academy, Sacred Heart Convent School, Tata Management Development Centre, Indian Institute of Management (Ranchi), Kejriwal Institute of Management and Developmental Studies (Ranchi) and Xavier Institute of Management (Bhubaneswar).

The adventure activities would be conducted by TSAF manager Hemant Gupta, senior instructors Sandeep Tolia, Susen Mahto and L. Annapurna, all of whom were back recently after conducting similar activities in Garhwal Himalayas.

Tata Steel adventure programmes chief and Everester Bachendri Pal will also join the activities at Tumung and Dimna once she returns from Singapore.

"The participants from Bokaro were ferried to Tumung on our bus from JRD Tata Sports early this morning. They will stay for two days at Tumung. We have earmarked a session on cooking tomorrow. The participants will prepare their own dinner," TSAF secretary P.P. Kapadia told The Telegraph.

The response, he added, was very good. "Actually, several requests for entries poured in but we thought of limiting the number of participants as our hands had become full,' Kapadia said.

The winter outdoor leadership programme will run alongside the one in Odisha, where the premier adventure outfit is kicking-off activities on January 4 next year.
