Jamshedpur, Nov. 10: In a bid to restore the rich heritage of Tamil literature and cater to the changing requirements of the younger generation, Madrasi Sammelani, an apex body of Tamils, has decided to build a first state-of-art Tamil library in Bistupur.

The library would house not only books, novels and magazines but also compact discs and music cassettes of popular Tamil films.

According to the officials of Madrasi Sammelani, the library would be built on modern scale. The officials said the work is on full swing and they are hoping to complete the project next year.

G. Shankar, secretary of the sammelani, said people of the city are fast losing their reading habits.

?This has also effected the growth of literature and language. Lack of easy availability of latest Tamil novels, magazines, CDs and VCDs has left the community to search for other medium to enrich their knowledge, he added.

Shankar also informed that the library would house classic books on Tamil literature, its history and other research papers.

The organisation would also subscribe to the monthly, weekly and fortnightly Tamil magazines published across the country to help community members remain abreast with latest developments.

?We have plans to develop the library into a store house of information. The organisation would add more facilities to make it more effective for visitors,? said Shankar.

According to Shankar, the managing director of Tata Steel and the chairman of board of trustees of Madrasi Sammelani, B. Muthuraman has agreed to lend every possible help for the project.

The organisation secretary said actor R. Madhavan has assured support to the efforts of Madrasi Sammelani to build an exclusive Tamil library. The actor has agreed to support in arranging CDs on Tamil movies.
