If you study in Classes X, XI or XII, forget about uninterrupted vacations.
Most Jamshedpur schools have decided to hold special classes during at least one week of the upcoming summer holidays.
In most Jamshedpur schools, summer vacations would start from May 6 and continue till June 15.
Special classes from 7am to 10am would be held for students of Classes X and XII during vacations from May 6 to 12.
Some of the schools who have decided to hold the special classes are Sacred Heart Convent School, Narbheram Hansraj English School, Carmel Junior College, ADLS Sunshine School and Vidya Bharti Chinmaya Vidyalaya, among others.
Principals say the move is needed as most of the syllabus of the senior classes is left incomplete. Early dispersal of classes due to the extreme heat and teachers remaining absent to evaluate papers of board exams are the two reasons for it.
"Evaluating answer papers, a late session and early dispersal of classes are the main reasons for holding the extra classes. Since this seems to be the trend, we have to be more prepared from next year," said Paramita Roy Chaudhury, principal of Narbheram Hansraj English School.
"This time, Class X exams got over by April third week and students joined Class XI on April 24. Since the exams were held very late, students of Class XI missed classes from March to April. We will hold classes for subjects like physics, chemistry, mathematics, English and Hindi for Classes IX to XII," said Vipin Sharma, principal, Vidya Bharti Chinmaya Vidyalaya.
The move garnered mixed reactions from students.
"It's good that we are getting to attend extra classes or else our syllabus would have been incomplete. I am looking forward to them," said Paras Vaidya, a Class X student in Carmel Junior College.
But, students who had decided on going for trips outside town had to cancel the plan. "We planned a trip to Darjeeling. That's not happening," rued a Narbheram student.
