Hard work, complete devotion and deep knowledge ? proclaims the emblem of Vivekananda Vidya Mandir. The seal indicates that the vision of truth would be attained through any of these virtues or a combination of all of them.

The foundation stone for Vivekananda Vidya Mandir was laid on the auspicious day of ?Rath Yatra? in 1970 on a plot of land allotted by authorities of Heavy Engineering Corporation Limited, Dhurwa, Ranchi.

It is run by Sri Ramakrishna Seva Sangha, Jagannathnagar.

A.K. Mishra, the principal says: ?It is the prime duty of a school to provide quality education to children and inculcate good qualities in them to make the future of a nation bright.?

This school is already in the line of providing such an education, which makes students physically, mentally and morally strong. Stress is also on character building of a child.?

lThe maths laboratory is one of the assets that the school is proud of. Established as per the CBSE directive, the lab helps students solve complicated sums with the help of models. Besides, the school also has a well-equipped lab for physics, chemistry and biology. A well-decorated art and music room is also an attraction for students.

The school has introduced environmental study from Class IX to XI to make the students aware of natural disasters.

There is well-equipped and aesthetically-designed computer centre that has 25 terminals. Computer education is compulsory from Class IV to X. For the students of Std XI and XII, computer science is an optional subject.

lThe school spares the tiny tots from any mental stress and it provides educational toys to the tiny tots of KG and prep. It makes both learning and teaching methods easier by providing them with educational aids to kids.

Besides, as per the direction from CBSE, the school has also lessened the burden of students from Class I to V by not giving them extra homework.

lThe school is a storehouse of more than 10,000 collection of books. The library houses Competition Success Review, India Today, encyclopaedia and magazines.

Students avail the library facility while preparing for competitive examinations for IIT and medical tests.

Senior librarian Poonam Singh is actively involved in guiding students and instiling in them a love for reading books.

The school has introduced remedial classes for students who are weak in subjects such as mathematics, physics and chemistry.

?There are remedial classes for Class X and Class XII students so that they can improve and prepare for board examinations confidently,? said the principal.

Students are encouraged to interact among themselves crossing the boundaries of age and class and the school promotes team spirit, loyalty and healthy competition.

Students are divided into six houses ? Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr Homi Bhabha, Tagore, Birsa Munda and Maa Sarada.

Besides, there are six eco clubs in the schools ? spiritual, patriot, science, literature, cultural and heritage. In-charge of the eco club Krishna Shukla was selected as the best eco club organiser by district education office and Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra.

lThe school gives scholarship of Rs 5,000 to toppers of Class X and XII every year. The scholarship is sponsored by a former student of the school, Anand Srivastawa, who is now based in Kuwait. A school alumnus is also working as a scientist in NASA.

Awards are given to the first three position holders of each class. There are prizes for full attendance, two prizes for good conduct are given for each class. Prizes are also given for securing the highest marks in each subject in Class X and Class XII.

lThe students are actively involved in extra-curricular activities. They take part in music, extempore, essay, and speech competitions.

A student of the school Shukla Bouri of Class VIII bagged the first prize in the senior group during an inter- school painting competition in Ranchi.

Besides, Sumit Kumar of Class IX won the second prize in All India level painting competition. The school also conducts quiz competitions based on the syllabus of eco-club. The school?s summer timings are 7.40 a.m to 1.25 p.m and winter classes start at 8.10 am and end at 1.55 pm.
