Tata Steel thrashed Tata Motors by six wickets in a JSCA institution league tie at Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur on Tuesday.

Replying to a paltry target of 49, the steel major stitched up the necessary runs in just 3.5 overs in a one-sided outing. Rajiv Behera top scored with 20 while opener Amitesh Mishra made 14 runs.

Batting first, Tata Motors players had no reply to the spin duo of the opponents as left-arm tweakers Arif Hussain and Mithun Mukherjee bundled them out in 18.1 overs.

Arif snared 6 for 13 while Mithun bagged 4 for 23 by bowling a tidy line and length.

It was poor batsmanship from Tata Motors who had so far not won a single match in the tournament. Batsmen got dismissed cheaply and the procession to the pavilion was a regular affair as Arif and Mithun took charge of the proceedings with elan.

Barring opener Shivam Dubey, who top scored with 20, no other batsmen excelled with the willow.

Table tennis

Steel city paddlers will be vying for top honours in an inter-school table tennis championship to be held at JRD Tata Sports Complex from April 28 to May 1.

Organised by East Singhbhum District Table Tennis Association (ESDTTA), the meet will be played in junior, sub-junior and cadet categories involving singles and doubles matches.

Football talent hunt

The CRPF will conduct an Under-19 football talent hunt tournament at the mega sports complex in Hotwar, Ranchi, on Wednesday. The tournament has been prodded by the PM's directive to the central paramilitary forces to hone talent for FIFA events.
