Budding swimmers from Jamshedpur pocketed as many as 119 medals - 63 gold, 33 silver and 23 bronze - to help East Singhbhum top the 9th Jharkhand State Sub-Junior and Junior Swimming Championship, which concluded at Union Club in Dhanbad on June 11.

The champion swimmers, all cadets of Tata Steel training centre, held complete sway over the two-day meet, putting hosts Dhanbad and Bokaro by the wayside. Dhanbad won 22 medals (10gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze) and Bokaro 28 medals (5 gold, 11 silver and 12 bronze). Host team was declared runner-up by virtue of winning more gold medals than third-placed Bokaro.

Sagnik Kar Roy claimed 6 gold medals in 50m, 100m, 200m freestyle and 50m, 100m and 50m relay in the junior boys' category before teammate Biswajeet Dutta slotted home yellow metals in 100m breaststroke and 50m relay besides silvers in 50m, 200m breaststroke and 100m and 200m freestyle categories.

Vaibhav Pratap was also not behind in the medal chase in the junior boys' section. The youngster bagged five golds (50m, 100m freestyle, 50m, 100m butterfly and 50m breaststroke) and a silver in 100m freestyle.

Tata cradle boys also proved their mettle in the sub-junior section with Rana Pratap pulling in 5 golds and Piyush Kumar Singh getting 5 golds and one silver.

"I aim to pursue swimming," said Lavya Gautam, who claimed four gold medals in the junior girls' section.
