Ranchi, March 25: Senior advocate Bibhuti Bhushan Pandey has been elected the first chairman of the newly constituted Bar Council of the state here today.
Other office-bearers of the council include Bokaro civil court practitioner S.K. Ray, who won the seat of vice chairman and high court advocate M.K. Dey who has been nominated as a member of the Bar Council of India.
The 25-member council held a meeting today on the premises of the high court where an election for the three posts was held behind closed doors.
While the post of chairman was contested by senior advocate Debi Prasad, high court advocates Mahesh Tiwary and Abdul Allam competed for the post of vice-chairman.
Pandey said the council would do all that is possible for the benefit of the advocates.
However, the members evaded from answering the question about the stand-off between Jamshedpur district advocates and judges of the high court.
