Odyssey Wonders, a Jamshedpur-based company started by XLRI alumnus Shadab Akhter, has introduced fun sports this summer at a resort near the steel city.

Keeping the searing summer heat in mind, the organisers have introduced water sports.

Kids and youngsters are flocking Wave International on NH-33, about 12km from the city, to experience the thrill of games such as water zorbing, boating, archery, rifle shooting and paintball.

The new games, which were introduced on May 16, are in addition to existing favourites such as go-kart racing, laser tagging and all-terrain vehicle (ATV) rides.

"Since it's summer and kids love to be in water, we introduced water zorbing and boating at the resort's swimming pool. We have 10 employees who supervise the activities," Shadab Akhter, director of Odyssey Wonders, said.

For those with a more adventurous bent of mind, go-karting and ATVs are popular alternatives.

Go-karting or riding a small four-wheeled vehicle is popular among those who love to race. ATVs are vehicles that can handle a wide variety of terrains. Laser tagging and paintball attract those who like interactive games.

Laser tagging is a competitive shooting game in which each player has a laser tag gun and wears an infrared-sensitive target. The players try to hit members of the opposing team by shooting at the other players' sensors with laser lights. Paintball is also a combat game where armoured teams shoot at each other with paint bullets.

The best part? The games are affordable. Water zorbing and boating are allowed for 10 minutes at Rs 50 while archery and rifle shooting cost Rs 50 for 10 rounds.

Not surprisingly, footfall is heavy on weekends.

"Jamshedpur should have more hangout zones. How many times can we visit a restaurant or watch a movie? I will come here every weekend if possible," said businessman Sayan Vohra.

Odyssey Wonders is planning to introduce more sporting activities in coming months. It plans to have 25 games to cater to all age groups.
