Spirit winner at soccer meet

Jamshedpur, March 29: The special children had a day-out on the field this afternoon as they dribbled, chased each other and took powerful shots at the goal during the Soccer Carnival-2005, organised by the Tata Steel sports department in association with the Lion?s Club of Jamshedpur at JRD Tata Sports Complex.

Over 90 special children of 18 teams from Asha Kiran, School of Hope, START, Kitadih Community Centre, Deepshikha (Ranchi) and Ashalata (Bokaro) participated in the carnival.

In a colourful ceremony they arrived with their parents and teachers.

The seven-minute matches in each of the three categories ? intellectually disabled children (higher and lower ability groups), hearing impaired children (Under-15 and above-15 age group) and visually-impaired, tested the skills of the participants.

While START, Asha Kiran ?B? and Sankalp emerged champions in different groups in the contests for intellectually impaired, Bal Vihar won the title in the event for the hearing impaired (under-15), Siddheshwar School for Blind lapped up the honour in the above-15 age group.

Earlier, the event was inaugurated by police superintendent Sanjay Anand Lathkar. Senior Tata Steel sports department officials were also present on the occasion.
