Jamshedpur, Oct. 13: The West Singhbhum district administration has identified a site for construction of the Chaibasa commissionary.

Chief minister Arjun Munda would inaugurate the new commissionary of Chaibasa on October 17.

The state government would have to spend about Rs 40 to 45 lakh annually once the new commissionary starts functioning. The commissionary would monitor the activities of the three districts of West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan.

Sources in the West Singhbhum district administration said the ITI building at Chaibasa has been identified as the temporary office of the commissioner.

“The district administration has written to the state government. It had requested the labour department to hand over the building so that it can be used as the office of the Chaibasa commissionary,” sources said.

According to West Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amerendra Pratap Singh, the office of the commissionary at ITI would be a temporary one.

At present there are four commissionaries in the state. The new commissionary would ensure development of the three districts especially West Singhbhum, which still remains one of the most under developed districts in the state.

“Moreover there are thousands of pending cases from these three districts that have to be resolved at the level of the commissioner at Ranchi. We are confident that after the new commissioner takes charge at Chaibasa, these cases would be taken up and resolved. Even the collection of revenue from these three districts will get a boost as the commissioner will be able to co-ordinate things in a better fashion,” they said.

Apart from appointing a commissioner, the government would also depute a police official at the rank of deputy inspector general of police (DIG) at Chaibasa commissionary to monitor the activities of the police in the three districts.

The grapevine has it that two prominent names are doing the rounds as the first commissioner of Chaibasa commissionary.

The present deputy commissioner of East Singhbhum, Nidhi Khare, and the former deputy commissioner of West Singhbhum, Sajal Chakraborty, are the front runners for the coveted post.

For the post of deputy inspector general of police, few names of Indian Police Service (IPS) officials, including Pervez Hayat, V.H. Deshmukh, V.N. Mishra and M.V. Rao are doing the rounds.

“The final decision regarding appointment of a commissioner and a deputy inspector general of police will be taken by the chief minister within the next few days,” the sources said.

The chief minister had told The Telegraph some time ago that he would appoint officials, who knew the region, especially the Kolhan area of West Singhbhum.

“Someone who knows the region well, will be given charge of the commissionary,” he had said but refused comment as to who would head it.
