Ranchi, Oct. 14: A section of Bhojpuri music-lovers has demanded for the government’s intervention to check “vulgarity” and save the folk art from being “tarnished”.
Noted Bhojpuri singer Bharat Sharma Vyas, who is in the capital for a Bhojpuri music programme, said vulgarity was the biggest stumbling block in the propagation of Bhojpuri culture in the country and abroad.
“Vulgar cassettes and CDs give a bad name to Bhojpuri culture and Bihar. This is happening despite Bhojpuri songs being popular not only other states but also in countries like Mauritius, Fiji and Surinam,” Vyas said.
He said the lyricist, singer, recording company as well as the audience were responsible for the deteriorating trend and urged the government to ban vulgar albums. The Bhojpuri artist said the desire to become a hit overnight was the main reason behind the growing vulgarity in Bhojpuri songs.
