Ranchi, Aug. 31: The mood was just perfect this Sunday with women in colourful costumes buying different items for the forthcoming festive season.
The annual Teej fair was organised by the Morabadi Mahila Samiti at Morabadi neighbourhood today.
Around 40 members of the organisation put up a variety of kiosks, including bangles, decorative items for homes, purse and wallets, mehndi and other homemade stuff.
There were altogether 15 kiosks in the fair. However, the most attractive ones of them were those of sweetmeats, which were especially prepared by women at their homes.
The women in the fair were seen applying mehndi and also wearing colourful bangles.
The organiser of the fair, Indu Sinha, said that this was one of the most-awaited occasions for the women who purchase items utilised in the festival — considered to be one of the most auspicious occasions for the married women.
Sinha added that they had decided to celebrate other Indian festivals like Dhanteras, Raksha Bandhan in a big way from next year. “We have decided to include more numbers of women in the fair from next year to make it more successful,” Sinha added.
Suchitra Agarwal, one of the participants, who was seen purchasing colourful bangles, said that it played most important role in the Teej festival. “So are the mehndi. The different designs of which applied on the palm give colourful look,” Agarwal said.
Annapurna, another participant, who had purchased purses designed in satin material and adorned with sequence and colourful beads in the fair could not hold her enthusiasm.
“I have decided to wear matching saris, bangles and jewellery for the festival. This is the day which is celebrated for the well-being of our husband,” said Annapurna.
