Ranchi, Dec. 22: The government has decided to use the theme of Sarhul to represent the state at the Republic Day celebrations, 2007, in New Delhi.

State’s information and public relation department secretary Sukhdev Singh said, the defence ministry has given its nod to the state to take out a tableau based on the tribal festival theme.

Earlier, the state had proposed three different themes — Sarhul, the Tana Bhagat Movement and the Santhal Rebellion — as plausible options.

But an expert committee from the defence ministry finally gave the green signal to the Sarhul theme, stated a press release issued by the state information and public relation department today. The state’s chief secretary had received a letter to this direction from the defence ministry.

The state would start on the tableau from December 27. Delhi-based Surya Enterprises has been roped into the task to help out.

“The tableau would show a man beating a nagara (traditional Tribal musical instrument), while the backdrop would showcase the Sarhul festivities. Besides, popular artistes from the state would present a show based on local music and dance,” sources said.
