Jamshedpur, Aug. 5: Good news is in store for teachers of constituent colleges of Ranchi University with Ph.D degrees as the state human resource development department has decided to give them additional increment.

Sources said the department has asked the university authorities to furnish a list of teachers, including lecturers, readers and professors, who will be eligible for the increment.

Officials at the city-based Ranchi University branch office said all the seven constituent colleges here will send the list of the eligible teachers to the university before August 10.

The increments will be divided into two categories. For those, who completed their Ph.D after having joined colleges, will receive twice the earlier amount while those who joined their jobs after completing their Ph.Ds, will be eligible for an increment of four times.

?Following the decision of the human resource development department, we have notified all the constituent colleges to prepare a list of such teachers and furnish it to the university so that it could be sent to the concerned department after proper verification,? said L.N. Bhagat, registrar of Ranchi University.

A committee comprising the heads of different faculties will carry out the verification, the registrar added.

University sources added that about 150 teachers, including lecturers, readers and professors will be benefited by the decision.

The senior university official further said the move is an attempt to motivate teachers who are yet to acquire their Ph.D degrees.

According to the sources, the lecturers at present receive an annual increment of Rs 250 while readers and professors are entitled to an increment of Rs 425 and Rs 500, respectively.

Double increment will mean that lecturers will have a hike of Rs 500 while the readers and professors, buoyed by a four-fold increment will receive a hike of Rs 1,000.

S.S. Razi, a senior member of Ranchi University Academic Council and the principal of Jamshedpur Workers? College, said the decision of the state human resource development department will help boost the morale of the teachers. Besides, it will also act as a motivation for those yet to get their Ph.D degrees.

Citing an example of Jamshedpur Workers? College, Razi said there are seven such teachers in the post of lecturers and readers who have completed their Ph.Ds after appointment.
