Ranchi, Nov. 27: Chief minister Raghubar Das today laid the foundation for 55 roads and 13 bridges and inaugurated another 25 arteries and 45 links during an event at Chiyanki airport grounds on the outskirts of Daltonganj.
All these projects, covering around 1,500km and involving investments to the tune of Rs 3,980 crore, will mainly benefit people of Ranchi, Khunti, Simdega, Gumla, Lohardaga, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Giridih, Koderma, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Latehar, Gharwa, Palamau, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Dumka, Jamtara and Pakur districts.
"There shall not be any compromise with the quality of the roads and bridges. If the construction work does not meet the basic quality standard, the government will take tough action against erring contractors and engineers," the chief minister warned.
Das further said that his government was working towards providing skill to youths of the state to make them employable. "Why are a large number of youths unemployed even so many years after Independence? I would not comment on past failures or reasons thereof. But our government is committed to provide skills and jobs to youths," he added.
Das also used the platform to reiterate his government's stand on the CNT and SPT Acts, and claimed the amendments were the need of the hour to simplify things, which would eventually benefit the tribal communities. "They (tribals) can now use their land for various purposes. But there has been opposition from a section of people with vested interests," he added.
" Asan kam karne ke liye janta ne mujhe mukhyamantri nahi banaya hai (people have not chosen me as chief minister to do simple routine work)," he said, apparently hinting at the tough time his government was facing inside the Assembly and on the streets in the wake of Opposition's continued protests against the changes in the twin tenancy laws.
