Rs 1cr heroin haul near Dassam Falls

Two men were arrested with 2kg of suspected heroin worth around Rs 1 crore from Taimara Valley near Dassam Falls, 40km from here, on Saturday evening.

Ranchi: Two men were arrested with 2kg of suspected heroin worth around Rs 1 crore from Taimara Valley near Dassam Falls, 40km from here, on Saturday evening.

Ganesh Lohra and Krishna Munda are residents of Kolad village in Namkum, police sources said.

"The arrests were made following intelligence inputs. The accused, who are in their twenties, were going to deliver the consignment when we arrested them. The white powder smacks of heroin, which a lab test will confirm. The market worth is around a crore," said an officer.

The accused have been booked under Section 22 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Raids are being carried out to arrest their aides. Police have seized a white Maruti car (JH 01P 5352) that the duo were driving.

During interrogation, the two have revealed the name of one Manbodh Munda of Tamarana village in Tamar as their associate. They claimed to have procured the consignment from Manbodh. It was to be delivered to one Buddhadeo Munda, a resident of Nawadih Bazaar under Dassam Falls police station.

Manbodh had allegedly promised the arrested duo a cut in the delivery fee of Rs 9 lakh cash that the end receiver would have paid. The two were supposed to get a total of Rs 1 lakh.

Sources said samples would be sent to the state forensic science laboratory on Monday.

While Ranchi police are equipped with narcotics and cannabis test kits, most of these are currently unusable because the chemical in them has crossed its expiry date of three months.

Shot at

A land broker, Ajay Thapa, was shot and injured at Keskani in Mandar, Ranchi, on Sunday afternoon.

The 37-year-old, who took a bullet in his back, is admitted to RIMS. His condition is said to be stable.
