Your next visit to Rock Garden, one of the popular hangouts in Ranchi atop Gonda Hill in Kanke, will be worth remembering for reasons more than one.

Treats for gourmets, spy cameras and dedicated parking bays — the management is coming up with triple convenience, although they will not debut simultaneously.

A brand new three-storey restaurant sprawling over 2,000sqft is on its way to dish out multi-cuisine delicacies, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. The eatery is likely to open gates during Durga Puja.

“The ground floor is meant for ready-to-eat snacks, beverages and ice-cream, while on the other two floors there are separate eating lounges catering to the both vegetarian and non-vegetarian palate,” said a member of the management team of Rock Garden, adding that they were also planning to install air-conditioners.

Even when free of frills, the natural charm of Rock Garden — located some 4km from the bustling Albert Ekka Chowk — is a crowd magnet. On an average, 600-700 people visit the place daily.

Till date, lack of any eatery was a deterrent for some visitors, with a lone bhelpuri stall being the only way to beat hunger pangs. “Owing to this one reason, we failed to draw family crowds, except in picnic months like December and January. But, the new restaurant will attract all type of visitors,” said the official.

He added that another lake view restaurant, which is at present under construction, would also add to the footfall. “Construction began over two years ago and is in the last leg. A coffee shop, a gaming zone and an eatery are all planned for this area,” he said.

If the authorities concerned are taking steps to increase the footfall, security of the visitors will naturally top their priority list.

Hence, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras are expected to debut soon.

“To begin with, we have planned to install one camera at the entrance, while a couple more will be fixed inside the park,” the official said. Tenders have already been floated.

A new parking bay is also in the offing and is almost ready. “The drain on the right side of the park is being filled with sand and stone chips to convert the area into a parking lot. Besides, during monsoon, the lane leading to the hilltop used to be risky because of this overflowing drain,” said the official. It will take 10 days more for the parking bay to start functioning.

Park manager Ramadhar Singh said construction work was being done in accordance with the contract terms with Ranchi Regional Development Authority, which had leased out the facility to Nerve Knock Theme Park Pvt. Ltd for maintenance.

“We are coming up with these facilities so that it can help us generate revenue and visitors feel safe and happy,” Singh added.
