Ranchi, Oct. 2: Voices have been raised following the government's plan to extend the date for application for the post of director of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), following a poor resposnse to its advertisement. RIMS came into existence as a superspeciality autonomous hospital on August 15 from erstwhile Rajendra Medical College and Hospital (RMCH).
The RIMS governing body had advertised for the post of director keeping in view the new requirements after elevation of its status. The last date for submitting applications was September 30. But only seven appliations were received till that date, six from Jharkhand and one from Bihar.
“Going by the number of applications received for the post and given the fact that most of them are from this state, it seems that hardly anybody is interested in taking the mantle of the health insitute,” said sources.
According to sources, the six applications received from Jharkhand included those of K.P. Srivastava (present director RIMS), S.N. Choudhary (superintendent RIMS), principal of PMCH (Dhanbad), Manoranjan Sahay (HoD paediatrics RIMS), A.K. Mahto (HoD medicine RIMS) and J. Prasad.
The sole applicant from outside the state is a former director of Patna's IGIMS.“The intention of the government to extend the date carries no sense as we do not foresee much difference in the number of applications keeping the criteria carved to suit only the rare few by the committee. I do not see any rationale in extension of the application date,” said a leading doctor of the city.
Sources cited various problems, facing RIMS as the reason behind the poor repsonse. “The health institute has so many problems. Promotions of the employees are due for years.
By-laws have not been framed yet which is a matter of confusion among the employees. Service conditions are not clear and there is an air of uncertainty. In this scenario, who would like to put finger in fire,” asked the doctor.
”Till today the common man finds no change in the hospital from RMCH, minus assurances. I suggest if application dates are to be extended at all then the government should change the appointment and application criteria too, or choose one of the present applications as date extension on present criteria will give no result,” added the doctor.
