Tracks and signal repairing work near Purulia derailed train services in the South Eastern Railway's (SER) Chakradharpur and other divisions on Sunday.

The railways imposed a mega-block between Purulia and Anara stations in Adra division to facilitate repairs, resulting in diversion and short-termination of a number trains during the day. Officials at Tatanagar station, however, claimed that normal services would be restored on Monday.

Swarnarekha Express that runs between Tatanagar and Dhanbad was cancelled on Sunday due to the mega-block. The train leaves Tatanagar station at 1.20pm.

This apart, according to officials of the Chakradharpur division, Tata-Dhanbad Passenger (68019) travelled till Bokaro. The train left Tatanagar as usual at 8am and returned to Jamshedpur after short-termination at Bokaro.

Tata-Asansol Passenger started off from Tatanagar at 8.45am and travelled up to Purulia instead of Asansol.

The Tata-Danapur Express (Down) travelled on a diverted route via Jaichandi Pahar and Kharagpur instead of the usual Purulia-Chandil line. Also, three-four passenger trains had to take diverted routes in the day.

A railway spokesperson of Chakradharpur division, A.K. Agarwal, said the cancellation, diversions or short-terminations were applicable for only Sunday. "Normal railway traffic will be restored in all the affected divisions from Monday," he said.

At Tatanagar, regular announcements were made to inform passengers about short-termination and diversion of various trains.

"I was supposed to go to Asansol on Tata-Asansol Passenger today to visiting a relative. But, this morning, when I came to the station, I came to know that the train would go up to Purulia only. Hence, I had to cancel the trip," said Swati Ghosh, a Sonari resident.

Similarly, several passengers, who wanted to travel to Dhanbad, postponed their journey when they came to know that Tata-Dhanbad Passenger would be short-terminated at Bokaro.
