Jamshedpur, June 23: The district administration has initiated an inquiry into the allegations of sexual harassment an rape made by a tribal women against a district welfare officer.

The woman in a written complaint to the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner, Nitin Madan Kulkarni, has accused the officer of sexually harassing her for six months at his Sonari residence.

The victim, a member of Santhali community, had started working as a domestic-help at his residence from June last year.

The officer, she alleges, who stayed alone at his residence, had raped her. Later, he had threatened her of dire consequences if the matter be made public. The written complaint lodged with the district administration said the woman, a resident of Bhandaru in Chakulia block, has alleged that the official had promised her a job of a fourth grade employee.

A complaint has also been lodged with the secretary of state welfare department, state tribal welfare commissioner and deputy director of state welfare department and deputy inspector-general of police (tribal atrocities relief cell).
