The steel city would be resorting to video surveillance during Ram Navami celebrations scheduled for April 15 and April 16 to ensure maintenance of law and order.

SDO Dhalbhum Suraj Kumar, in a directive issued on Monday, asked local police stations and Ram Navami akhara committees to ensure that video recording of processions (on April 15) and immersion marches (on April 16) was carried out by respective akharas.

"The directive to akhara committees will be strictly enforced. In fact, we will be holding meetings at zones and super zones with various Ram Navami akhara committees, making them sign affidavits for conducting video recording of processions. The administration will also arrange for video photography teams to be deployed on routes of processions," said Kumar, adding that magistrates had been entrusted with the task of monitoring akhara committees.

The SDO's directive is aimed at keeping a tab on trouble-makers during Ram Navami, especially in sensitive pockets of Jamshedpur. "It will help us to not only identify the culprits during a law and order problem, but also provide us with concrete evidence. Video photography, we hope, would also act as a deterrent for miscreants," he explained.

Keeping in mind various police station areas, the administration has divided the district into 25 zones and six super zones, which include cluster of thanas, ahead of Ram Navami festivities.

Zonal and super zonal officials have been asked to coordinate with urban local bodies like Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee, Jusco, Mango Notified Area Committee and Jugsalai Municipality to ensure cleaning of ghats and roads before the festival.

"We have issued directives to zonal and super zonal authorities to coordinate with local urban bodies and corporates (Tata Bluescope, Tinplate Company, Lafarge, Tata Ryerson, Tata Power, Timken and Tata Motors) to arrange for adequate water tankers for akhara committees near their areas of operation in view of the rising temperatures," the SDO said.

Ram Navami immersion ceremonies will take place at several ghats, namely, Subernarekha in Sakchi, Kapali and Domuhani in Sonari, Sati in Kadma, Bhuiyandih in Sitaramdera-Sidhgora, Bodhanwala in Bistupur and Baroda in Bagbera.

All approach roads to these ghats will be barricaded from the evening of April 14.
