Jamshedpur, Sept 16: A team of anti-terrorist squad (ATS) from Ranchi today attached the property of a resident of Azadnagar in Mango for his alleged links with al Qaida.

The attachment of the property of Mohammed Kalim (55), who has been absconding since 2016, was carried out in the presence of DSP (ATS) Awadh Yadav and inspector Amarjit Prasad along with an armed team from Azadnagar police station led by OC Anjani Kumar Tiwary.

'The Jamshedpur civil court had issued a warrant for attaching Kalim's property in October 2016 and today's development was part of the pr-ocess,' Jamshedpur city SP Prashant Anand said.

Tiwary said Kalim's first floor house on Road No. 14 at Azadnagar was searched. Sources said a washing machine and ceiling fan were seized from the house that also had some money receipts and Islamic books.

Kalim allegedly ran a madarsa from his home and used it for radicalising local youths and encouraging them to join jihadi groups. such as al Qaida. Kalim is said to have close ties with al Qaida suspects Abdul Sami and Abdul Rahman alias Katki, who are currently lodged in Tihar Jail.

While Katki was nabbed in a joint drive by Delhi and Odisha police near Cuttack, Sami was nabbed in New Delhi last year. Sami too lived in a rented house in Dhatkidih under Bistupur police station.

Kalim had fled in January last year when an ATS team was in Jamshedpur to arrest Masood Ahmed (38) from his home in Dhatkidih of Bistupur for having suspected links with al Qaida operatives.

The team had also nabbed Nasim Akhtar (40) from his house in Zakirnagar in Mango for dealing in firearms.
