Jamshedpur, Oct. 19: This year when the Jamshedpur Durga Puja Kendriya Samiti (JDPKC) announces the awards for the best city pujas, the impact they create would be perhaps somewhat similar to the puja awards announced in Calcutta every year.
For though the practice of announcing awards was started a few years ago in the city, it was kept rather low-key.
But this time JDPKC has decided to raise the scale and rope in the administration in the evaluation process, thereby raising the hype around the awards even more.
“Awards are the biggest motivation and unless they come from authoritative people, they are not taken seriously,” said Ram Babu Singh, the general secretary of JKDPC.
To be judged in two phases, the awards would be given based on the parameter decided by JDPKS. The parameters to be followed are cleanliness, overall arrangement, discipline, security, sound management and decoration.
According to the decision, a five-member team from JDPKC would visit the pandals on the five days to judge them. Another team comprising administrative and police officials would also make a round of the pandals.
“Earlier, we had some local-level social organisation which gave these awards,” said Singh. Three awards would be given, though being the first year there would not be cash awards.
The five-member team, which would evaluate the pujas, comprises senior JKPDC members and social workers. Next year onwards the picture will get even bigger as the best puja committee will also get cash awards and there will be separate awards for best idols.
There will be something for the police, too. Respective puja committees along with the administration would also award police persons who would do their duties diligently in maintaining the peace and decorum. The final award ceremony would take place sometimes around Diwali.
