Jamshedpur, May 12: A Uttar Pradesh-based private party will take over the biggest hospital in Ghatshila subdivision.
The hospital is managed by the Indian Copper Complex (ICC), an unit of the cash-strapped PSU, Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL). The HCL management has sought green signal of the Union mines ministry so that the former can sell the 300-bed hospital at an estimated cost of nearly Rs 18 crore.
“The file concerned is with Union mines minister Ramesh Vaish and we hope that he will grant permission to HCL,” sources told The Telegraph. Sources added that when two senior representatives of Jharkhand Copper Mazdoor Union (JCMU) Sudhir Mahato and Debi Prasad Mukherjee met the minister in Delhi a few days ago to discuss the problems of HCL, Vaish promised that he would clear the proposal.
JCMU officials wanted to know about the fate of the roposal that the HCL management had sent to the ministry regarding the sale of Moosaboni hospital. Company insiders said apart from catering to healthcare, the private party also plans to set up a private medical college and a nurses’ training centre on the premises of the hospital.
Located at Moosaboni, the hospital is spread over 30 acres of land. The three-story building has a few well-equipped operation theatres. There are separate wards for men and women. Although the hospital is managed by the company, it had decided to sell it because of the rising cost. “The management is hard-pressed for funds to manage the hospital,” sources said.
The HCL has been incurring losses over the past few fiscals and the workers are not paid regularly. The company’s cumulative loss has accumulated to over Rs 500 crore. The private management plans to upgrade the hospital by providing it state-of-the-art facilities. It has also assured ICC that trained and qualified workers, including doctors and nurses, would be appointed at the hospital so that quality treatment could be provided to patients.
Barring a few private nursing homes, there are no big hospitals in the area to treat serious cases.
