Chaibasa, March 28: A number of political parties, including the BJP have been booked for allegedly violating the model code of conduct, which is mandatory for the recognised parties to follow ahead of the 14th Lok Sabha election.

The All-Jharkhand Students’ Union (AJSU), Jharkhand Disom Party (JDP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which fall in the category of regional parties, have allegedly violated the model code of conduct conceived by the election commission.

A national party like the BJP has allegedly flouted the code as well. The parties have been accused of writing messages on the walls of government buildings.

“Both national and regional parties have apparently violated the code. They have scripted messages on the walls of government buildings. The divisional block offices, forest offices, post offices, Rungta Garden, Jain Commerce College and the Rabindra Bhavan have been used for campaigning purposes. Wall-writing can also be found at the bus-stand and opposite to the deputy development commissioner’s office,” said Ajay Kumar, in-charge of the model code of conduct in the district.

“The parties do not seem to be taking the code of conduct seriously though newspapers have carried advertisements on the same,” he added.

The official said the district administration has registered cases against the erring parties under different sections of the Criminal Procedure Code, the Indian Penal Code and the Public Property Defacement Act, 1987. JDP was the first party in the Singhbhum parliamentary constituency against which a case was registered.

Cong list: The Congress has announced the names of candidates for three seats, reports our Ranchi correspondent.

In Godda, the party has fielded Furkan Ansari, in Dhanbad, Chandrashekhar Dubey, and in Palamau, Vijay Ram. The decision for the Ranchi seat is pending.
