Jharkhand Police has decided to offer a musical tribute to those in the force who laid down their lives in the call of duty.

Come October 21 and Bollywood singer Shaan, Bhojpuri star Manoj Tiwari and Dhanbad boy Meiyang Chang will perform for families of over 350 martyrs at Birsa Munda Football Stadium in the state capital.

Besides, stand-up comedian Raju Srivastava, who is famous for his jokes and mimicry, will provide comic interludes in the four-hour-long show.

According to DGP Rajiv Kumar, Indian cricket skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni had agreed to attend the event, where chief minister Hemant Soren will be chief guest.

“The programme is being organised for the first time in the state to recognise the hard work, loyalty and sacrifice of Jharkhand police,” Kumar told news persons on Friday.

Depending on the success of this year’s show, the event could be turned into an annual affair.

“Instructions have been sent to all district SPs to ensure the presence of the kith and kin of the martyrs, who will be honoured on the occasion. Officers have been asked to arrange for buses for the journey to Ranchi,” the DGP said.

Innovations India, a multinational event management company led by Captain Rahul Bali, an alumnus of National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy, will organise the show.

The state police department will bear the entire cost of the event. It will also take care of travel, food and lodging expenses of visiting families.

There would be no tickets for the public. “But, a limited number of passes will be issued from our department offices,” Kumar said.
