Ranchi, Oct. 31: Renowned quiz master Giri Balasubramaniam, also known as “Pickbrain” for his unique style of quizzing and sense of humour, is set to test the IQ of city students.

The Tata Steel Centenary Inter-school Quiz, which will be held on November 2 at St Xavier’s College, is one of the highlights of the steel giant’s centenary celebrations.

The chief guest on the occasion would be HRD minister Bandhu Tirkey. This year, organisers have received 130 entries from Ranchi. The top six teams will participate in the final.

The prize money for the top three teams is Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. The quiz is open to students from Classes VIII to XII.

No entry fee would be charged and each team must comprise two students from the same school. The preliminary round for the quiz would begin at 2.30pm and the final round would be held at 5.30pm on Friday.

Sanjay Choudhary, chief, corporate communications at Tata Steel said, the main aim of the quiz is to nurture and develop young minds.

“We have been organising this competition for the past two years. This is for the third time that the quiz competition is taking place,” Choudhary added.

The quiz will be held in other parts of the country, too, like Chennai, Calcutta, Kharagpur, West Bokaro and Tarapur (Maharashtra) by the first week of January.

“The top three teams will be invited to take part in final, which is scheduled to be held in Jamshedpur. One mega winner will be awarded, too,” said Amar Kumar Biruli, the resident executive of Tata Steel.

Apart from Ranchi, the Tata Steel Centenary Inter-School Quiz was also organised in Raipur and would be held in Bhubaneswar and other cities where Tata Steel has operations.
