Jamshedpur: Steel city climber Aman Verma, 15, has found a slot in the four-member Indian squad for the Asian Kids Sport Climbing Championship to be held in Singapore on December 16 and 17.

He is the lone boy in the side announced by Indian Mountaineering Foundation. The rest three members are girls from other states.

It will be the maiden international competition for Aman, a Class IX student of Kerala Public School, Kadma, who hones his climbing skills at Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF).

Currently in Delhi, Aman will leave for Bangalore on Thursday to join the Indian team, which will fly to Singapore on Friday morning.

Aman is also the second climber from Jharkhand after Talim Ansari to represent India in an international competition. Jamshedpur boy Talim was part of the Indian team at the Asian Youth Sport Climbing Competition in Tehran, Iran, in September last year.

" Achha lag raha hai. Medal jitney ki puri koshish karunga (I am feeling great. I will try my best to win a medal)," said Kadma resident Aman over phone from Delhi.

TSAF senior manager Hemant Gupta said Aman would compete in the sub-junior category in lead, speed and bouldering sections of sport climbing. "We were very optimistic of his selection and we are also sure that he will win medals in Singapore," he added.

The TSAF official, himself an Everester, further added that Aman was selected on the basis of his performance at a selection trial held in Bangalore earlier this month.

Mentor Bibhas Roy said he was proud of his ward who was hardworking and seldom missed practice sessions.

"Aman is a sincere boy. I am sure he will return home with a medal. He is in good form," he added.

The young climber has claimed medals at national and state competitions. After his return from Singapore, Aman will be off to Bangalore to represent Jharkhand in the national competition scheduled later this month.
