Ranchi, May 2: After asking Mahi’s alma mater to drop the DAV tag, the DAV College Managing Committee has issued notices to at least four schools accusing them of using their name to run the schools without conforming to the norms.

These include — DAV Aloke, DAV Dhurwa, DAV Namkum and DAV Ankul, Ratu Road.

“We have issued notices asking them to drop the DAV tag as they are not following the rules and regulations of the DAV College Managing Committee,” said L.R. Saini, regional director of DAV, Ranchi zone.

Saini said, in a bid to keep the DAV tag, schools have to follow the norms set by the DAV College Management Committee, which is a trademark.

The decision comes close after DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir (JVM), run by the Mecon management, was asked to drop the DAV tag. The Mecon management has constituted a society comprising seven members to run the school, the alma mater of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

While speaking to The Telegraph, J. Mathew, vice-chairman of JVM said, now the school would be run by the JVM Education Society.

Mathew added that the “DAV” tag had to be removed after the agreement with the DAV managing committee expired. “Thus, we formed our own society,” he said. However, he refused to comment further.

Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, has been running under the Mecon management since 1973-1974. It followed DAV rules like other affiliated schools.

One of the officials of Mecon, who did not wish to be named, said the DAV College Managing Committee was putting pressure on JVM to follow certain terms and conditions, which other DAV schools were also following.

“They asked us to separate from the DAV management if we did not adhere to the rules. But we had already formulated our own rules and were unwilling to part with them,” the official added. However, Saini said there was a problem regarding a lady teacher who was forcibly asked to retire at the age of 58 from DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir.

“It may cited as one of the many reasons. According to the DAV College Managing Committee the retirement age of teachers is 60 years but the school did not follow this norm,” Saini added.

Saini added that the JVM filed an affidavit mentioning that they do not have any connection with the DAV management after the teacher filed a case against school authorities.

Saini added that the DAV College Managing Committee will take strong action against those schools that are using the DAV name.
