Jamshedpur: Tata-Alleppey Express chugged out from Tatanagar on Tuesday, two days after it was cancelled, but there were no passengers for flood-ravaged Kerala.
Railway authorities said that although no announcement had been made, the train would in all probability be halted at Chennai as it would not travel till Alleppey because of the floods.
The train, however, had passengers for various other destinations, like Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Coimbatore, Vijayawada, Katpadi and Jharsuguda. A reservation chart with TTE Kartik Kumar also indicated that there were no passengers for Alleppey.
"We are not sure whether the train will travel till Alleppey as all trains for Kerala are either being diverted or short-terminated," Kumar said as the train left.
The train came from Chennai and reached Tatanagar at 10.30am on Tuesday. Passengers on board the 11 coaches were either from Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Jharsuguda or Sambalpur. The train had to be cancelled on August 18 and 19 because the return rake was cancelled at Alleppey.
South Eastern Railway will run two special trains to Kerala to ferry relief materials. The trains will run from Shalimar to Thiruvananthapuram and from Santragachi to Ernakulam via Kharagpur on August 21 and 22 respectively.
CPRO Sanjay Ghosh said no freight charges would be levied for transporting relief materials to Kerala up to August 31.
