Around 2 lakh people reeling under frequent water crisis in Mango, Jamshedpur, may soon breathe a sigh of relief.

State food and civil supplies minister and Jamshedpur (West) MLA Saryu Roy on Sunday inaugurated a new electricity link to the Jawaharnagar water filtration plant in Mango with the aim of uninterrupted piped drinking water supply in the crowded area.

The connection was provided from the Kuar Bustee power substation that will supply 22-23 hours of uninterrupted power at the water treatment plant to purify water and distribute it.

Earlier, the water filtration plant was linked to the overloaded Dimna Bustee power substation that could supply around 18 hours of power.

"I am happy that people of my constituency will now get proper drinking water supply with the new power connection," said minister Roy.

Besides Roy, the inaugural function was attended by officials of Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (JUVNL) and drinking water and sanitation department.

Around Rs 75 lakh was spent to bring the new power line at the water treatment plant through a feeder linked to Kuar Bustee substation. "Funds for the project were jointly contributed by JUVNL and Mango Notified Area Committee," said JUVNL executive engineer Siddharth Sharma.

Subdivisional officer of drinking water and sanitation department, Mango, Umesh Kumar Singh, said the area was divided into seven zones for water supply. "Earlier, erratic power supply hindered pumping of water to the filtration plant, water tanks and underground sumps. The new power link from Kuar Bustee substation will help us improve water supply," Singh said.

For residents, it was a dream come true. "We can look forward to better water supply from now on," said Kishori Singh of Subhas Colony in Mango.
