Shopping spree

Grocery shopping will no longer mean a long drive to the heart of Ranchi for the 60-odd families at new National Games Housing Complex at Khel Gaon in Hotwar, with preparations on to give them a state-of-the-art marketing complex-cum-cooperative office.

The proposed building will be built on a five-acre plot near Mega Sports Complex, courtesy the department of co-operatives of the state .

Jeevendra Kumar, the state monitoring officer of Integrated Cooperative Development Project, said: “The 5,000sqft market will benefit residents here, as they will be able to procure perishable and non-perishable goods from here. The complex will also have food stalls.”

He added that produce from different cooperative societies would be directly sold to consumers.

“Customers will get fresh produce. This will also encourage farmers to sell their products here,” added Kumar.

Notably, the department of co-operatives has invited architects to submit proposals to construct the combined cooperative building, to comprise offices of the secretary, registrar and joint registrar of the Jharkhand State Adivasi Cooperative Vegetable Marketing Federation Limited, Poultry Co-operative Federation, Labour Co-operative Federation and Jharkhand Hilly Area Lift Irrigation Corporation.

The area of each office will be 5,000sqft.

The building will house a meeting hall, conference room and training facilities.
