Jamshedpur, April 20: City lad Prosonjit Paul stunned top seed Samudra Sarangi in the boys? under-14 final even as Jharkhand?s hope Micah Muhury conceded her semi-final match to Mokshada Jain in the inaugural Tata Steel All-India Tennis Association (AITA) Tennis Championship.
The talented Paul, a trainee at the Tata Steel Tennis Centre, showed no nerves despite losing the opening set 4-6 to his more experienced rival. The youngster, who came back from behind a set, put up a superlative performance of tennis and romped home with the next two sets 6-1, 6-1. Paul will take on West Bengal?s Prem Singh, who routed Vijay Abhinandan of Orissa 6-0, 6-2 in the other semifinal, in the summit clash.
City-based top seed Micah walked off the court even before she got into groove in the girls? under-18 semifinal tie against Mokshada Jain of West Bengal.
Micah, who complained of pain in her shoulder, conceded the match after losing the first set 3-6.Mokshada will take on statemate Rohini Das, who beat second seed Arundhuti Basu 6-0, 6-1 in the second semifinal.
Mokshada also reached the girls? under-14 finals, thrashing teammate Shrestha Banerjee 6-0, 6-0. In the finals, she will take on top seed Arundhati Basu, who defeated Snigdha Kapoor with a similar scoreline.
Aditya Sinha and Rohan Ray beat Samudra Sarangi and Sharad Suvro Sarkar 7-5,6-1 to reach the last four of the boys? under-18 doubles while the duo of Sunil Kumar Sharma and Mukesh Singh defeated Abhishek Padhee and Anand Senapati 6-3, 7-5.
In other doubles clash, Jharkhand?s Prosonjit Paul and Vikas Jha lost 6-0, 6-1 to Ranjan Prasad and Prem Singh of West Bengal.
