Jamshedpur, July 28: A 22-year-old private security guard, Kundan Kumar Singh, was found lying dead this morning in his room beside his unconscious roommate on the Jai Mangla Sponge Iron Company Private Limited premises in Chowka under Chandil police station.
Kundan’s roommate, Ranjit Kumar Singh, has been admitted to MGM Medical College and Hospital, where his condition is stated to be serious.
Kundan, Ranjit and four other guards of Anapole Security Agency used to stay in two rooms provided by the sponge iron company management on the factory premises.
Sources said the six guards had dinner together last night. After supper, Kundan and Ranjit remained in their room, while two others, Arvind Singh and Indranath Thakur, roommates of Kundan, went for night duty. When Kundan and Ranjit, who had morning duty, did not turn up, Arvind and Indranath returned to the room to wake them up assuming they were sleeping. As the room was bolted from inside, the duo knocked on the door frantically, but in vain. Finally, they broke open the door only to find the two lying motionless apparently after vomiting.
Kundan and Ranjit were rushed to the medical college hospital, where the doctor on emergency duty declared the former brought dead.
Eventually, the police were intimated, who sent the body of Kundan for post-mortem after registering a case of unnatural death.
Sub-inspector of Chandil police station Dhananjay Singh said since the ailing guard was yet to be normal, the police could not get any clue about the circumstances under which lead to the death of the 22-year-old guard.
“Maybe the duo had consumed liquor after their four companions left and fallen ill. But the real reason of death can be ascertained only when the one lying unconscious makes a statement,” said Singh, also the officer in charge of the Chandil police station.
Dr Y. Nath, the head of the forensic science and toxicology, MGM Medical College said the death might have occurred due to suffocation, but it could be a case of poisoning also.
