Jamshedpur, Nov. 1: Students of government schools today came up with new and innovative methods to save the environment.
Starting from food security, energy exploitation, water conservation and disaster management, students participating in the Annual Science Exhibition- 2010 at the Central Karimia High School showcased their innovative talents to solve a number of environmental problems which is a cause of major concern. The exhibition was attended by 200 students from more than 70 schools in the district. Himani Pandey, deputy commissioner of East Singhbhum was the chief guest on the occasion.
One Manish Jha, a Class X student, used banana peels to generate electricity in the rural areas, thereby creating energy out of waste.
Students of Jamshedpur Girls High School in Sakchi showed ways to combat man-made disaster, with reference to the Jnaneshwari train tragedy of May 2010.
The same thought was echoed by other students who came up with models on disaster management. Joginder Kumar, a student of Adivasi High School in Bhalubasa, built a model that could alert villagers about floods.
Other models also displayed how energy is exploited in various ways. Through their models, the students tried to create an awareness of the usage of eco-friendly methods like use of solar power, rainwater harvesting to conserve water and also how electricity and natural minerals like coal can be saved.
