Ranchi, Sept. 20: Jharkhand High Court granted bail to Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) legislator Pradeep Yadav today, paving the way for his release from prison where he has been lodged since April 22 after being slapped with a number of cases for having led protests against land acquisition for a high-profile power project in Godda.

Today's bail was for a case registered against him by a local resident for allegedly leading a group of protesters who attacked those supporting land acquisition for the 1,600MW ultra mega power project of the Adani group in Godda and Poreyahat blocks of Godda district.

In his FIR registered at Godda police station, the resident alleged that Yadav, the MLA from Poreyahat, incited supporters to beat him up, after which they forcibly took away Rs 5,000 from him.

Justice Amitav Kumar Gupta, who heard Yadav's plea, granted him bail. With this, Yadav, who has been arraigned in other criminal cases and has received bail in all of them, will be leaving jail after nearly five months.

Allegations against Yadav include inciting tension soon after a public hearing on the environmental impact of the proposed power plant. Subsequently, a district court had issued an arrest warrant against him.

Yadav was also alleged to have stalled the execution of an arrest warrant against him by ensuring that a group of wom-en and children formed a protective ring around him to prevent police from getting near.
