Though the state is endowed with rich resources, the leaders lack vision and will power to convert it into a developed state. The state lacks jobs for youths, prompting them to migrate to other places. Residents want proper healthcare, roads and other basic requirements in their areas.

The dream of a separate state from Bihar, a flourishing Jharkhand, is still unfulfilled after seven years of formation. The law and order has deteriorated across most parts of the state and the crime graph has witnessed a sharp ascent.

Despite having completed seven years, basic infrastructure like roadways, power, drinking water facilities and health services are yet to develop fully. After bifurcation, the Nitish Kumar government began developmental work and tried to curb corruption, but the situation in this state has remained stagnant. The government should concentrate on employment opportunities.

Unforeseen expenses have risen and no government work can be done without paying bribe. In the first two years, things were moving good but then everything got messed up and now there is no system working, let alone the government. Everything works well, but when it comes to government departments, then there is no limit to expense and time involved.

Today’s leaders do not want to spare a single moment for the people, spending their maximum time to remain in power. The present government has failed on all fronts. Every leader and worker of this coalition are busy in drawing maximum advantage. Naxalites have posed a major threat to the government, which lacks strategy to counter it.

There was a tremendous fight for housing rights for slum dwellers then and it continues even today but in a different form. There are eight slums in Dhanbad apart from dozens in Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Bokaro, where we work. The government has made many promises to give relief to them, but nothing materialised. Slums are being razed in the name of beautifying and expanding cities.

A spurt in corruption and Naxalism has been witnessed in the state over the last seven years. The politicians have made the state a subject of mockery for outsiders . Though endowed with rich natural resources and agricultural activities, a vast population has to face starvation. The scenario remains unchanged even now.

It’s a shame that the people of Jharkhand are talking about Statehood Day. The separation from Bihar gave everybody a hope that things would be better, but honestly speaking, we have been lagging behind Bihar. Corruption is at its peak, there is total lawlessness in the state and the government has completely failed to do anything about it.

If one looks back at all these seven years, there is hardly anything which, has complied by the expectations of people and I am no different. It was a very proud thing for Jharkhand to have bagged the hosting of a mega event like the National Games that was scheduled to take place in 2007. But there is no need to say why the state has not been able to conduct the event. The state still lags behind.
