Tight-lipped: Agriculture minister and Sarath MLA Randhir Kumar Singh

Ranchi: The state unit of the BJP on Sunday initiated a probe into agriculture minister Randhir Kumar Singh's alleged public remark against the party organisation in Sarath, Deoghar, on Saturday.

While Singh, an MLA from Sarath, has decided to remain tight-lipped about the controversy in public, he is learnt to have told his party bosses that he never uttered a word against the organisation.

"Singh has firmly denied that he challenged the might of the party organisation... But, we are carefully examining reports in various sections of the media (on Sunday) and video clippings that have gone viral on social media. Appropriate action will be taken," BJP state general secretary Deepak Prakash told this newspaper on Sunday.

Addressing his supporters in Sarath on Saturday, Singh had reportedly asked them not to bother much about the BJP organisation. "We need not butter up the BJP; instead the BJP should be buttering us up," he allegedly said.

Before the meeting, sources said, Singh had asked participants to switch off their mobile phones, but someone must have recorded his speech and leaked it on social media.

Singh has been incommunicado since. While his official mobile phone remained switched off on Sunday, his close aides said they were unaware of his whereabouts.

Singh had won the Sarath Assembly seat in 2014 as a JVM candidate, but soon walked out and into the BJP fold to become a minister in the Raghubar Das government.

Singh's conduct in public places have kindled controversies quite often.

Last month, Deoghar police registered a complaint against the minister under different Sections of the IPC and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities ) Act for allegedly using caste-based expletives against Aluwara panchayat mukhiya Jaidev Mahra in October and threatening to ruin him if he opened his mouth.

Before this, an MMS clipping had shown him selling paan, bidi and gutkha at a betel shop owned by one of his supporters in Sarath. The clipping had quickly gone viral on social media.

In August last year, he had created ruckus at a public function in the capital when economist-activist Jean Dreze said communal forces had gained upper hand in the current state of affairs.

The minister is also alleged to have links with the Randhir Sena, a group involved in moral policing and extortion in Sarath and nearby places.
