Ranchi, July 9: Former students of BIT, Mesra, have come up with software that promises to be a one-stop solution for school managements, enabling them to store records of attendance, fees, finance, human resource information and monitor students’ progress.

“Our invention helps principals to have a look at all aspects of a school’s management in a single software,” said Pawan Kumar Gupta, co-founder of Spirit Continues (SC), an organisation formed by a group of former students of BIT, Mesra, and Indian Institute of Management students.

The system will cost the school Rs 4.5 per student per month and its developers claim that it would ultimately bring down a school’s management expenses to one tenth.

The software has been so designed that it will automatically send an SMS to the parents of a child in case he/she does not turn up in school on a given day. It also aids in library and transport management.

“If all the details of a student is uploaded, the software will automatically generate a progress report in graphical forms,” Gupta said.

Spirit Continues was formed by Gupta along with BIT alumnus Manish Sonkar and management students Rajesh Ranjan (IIM, Kozhikode), Setu Saurabh (IIM, Ahmedabad) and Mohit Garg (IIM, Calcutta).

Explaining the functioning of the software, Gupta said the school management’s computer would be hooked to the server of Spirit Continues. A data bank of the school on various categories would automatically be stored with the service provider.

The schools have to initially buy the software on a contract that has to be renewed.

Gupta said some schools in the capital had shown an interest in the software.
